Dec 03, Colombo: Sri Lankan troops, slowed down by the floods and torrential rains in northern Sri Lanka regained momentum in their push towards LTTE's political capital of Kilinochchi as the flood waters recede, the Defence Ministry said today.
Defense Ministry said the Army's 57th Division and Task Force 1 soldiers who lined up along the western and southern boundaries of the Kilinochchi town yesterday (Dec 02) started pushing their forward boundaries further in to the town area.
Citing defence sources in the battlefield, the Ministry said heavy clashes were reported in the south of Adampan area since yesterday morning as troops of 57 Division attacked and destroyed a Tiger bunker line.
Meanwhile, Task Force 1 troops operating in the Nivil area, west of Paranthan in a confronted a group of Tigers causing heavy damages, the Ministry reported without giving any details of casualties.
Sri Lankan government has ruled out any negotiations with the LTTE until the Tigers lay down their arms. However, the Tiger chief brushing off the severe losses the LTTE has suffered in the hands of the military incurred vowed to continue his armed struggle.
