Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 15:34 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Central Bank today said that there is no risk at Seylan Bank, the financial institute mired in the recent crisis at the Golden Key Credit Card Company.

Speaking at a special press briefing held in Colombo this morning the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal said the customers should not fear to do their banking with the Seylan Bank at the moment.

According to the Governor, the Central Bank intervened in the crisis at the correct time to safeguard Seylan Bank customers. Central Bank’s decision to appoint Bank of Ceylon to manage Seylan was to safeguard the customers as well as the bank, he said.

However, Cabraal stressed that the Central Bank is unable to intervene in the crisis at Golden Key Credit Card Company as it is not a registered company of Central bank.

CEO of the Seylan Bank Ajitha Pasqual said yesterday that Seylan is quickly strengthening its financial position with the support provided by the Central Bank in a time of crisis.
