Dec 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has decided to hold the upcoming North Western and Central provincial council election on February 14th 2009.
Accepting nominations ended at noon today and most of the political parties and the independent groups contesting the polls will begin their publicity campaigns tomorrow.
According to the sources, the two main political parties in Sri Lanka, the United Peoples Freedom Alliance and United National Party are to contest the election with full strength as this election is important to both parties.
The dates for the postal voting are to be announced by the Commissioner later.
The election will be held to select the 56 people’s representatives for Central PC and 50 for the North Western PC.
