Dec 29, Colombo: The Tamil Nadu Q-branch police on Sunday arrested an alleged supplier of arms to the LTTE in Chennai, Indian media reports said.
The Q-branch police arrested Amir Anthony Paranthaman, a Sri Lankan living in Chennai on suspicion and seized a haul of weapon materials including 500 kg of ammonium nitrate, eight GPS devices, three satellite phones and two GSM repeater sets.
Paranthaman had told the police during interrogation that LTTE cadre had asked him to collect the materials sent from Switzerland and dispatch them to Sri Lanka on a boat from Rameshwaram, Indian media reported.
He was waiting for further instructions from the LTTE, when he was arrested by the Q-branch.
Sri Lanka Navy on Sunday (28) sunk an LTTE boat believed to be ferrying arms in the seas 12 nautical miles northeast off Point Pedro in Jaffna peninsula thwarting an attempt to smuggle in military items from India.
