Dec 29 Colombo: The National Freedom Front, breakaway faction of Sri Lanka's Marxists which recently allied with the government today said that although they have decided to support the ruling party, there are some issues which they couldn't agree.
Speaking at a special press conference held in Colombo this morning chairman of the NFF, parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said that they will strongly oppose the government effort to recommence the budget airways Mihin Lanka with a huge investment.
Mihin Lanka will recommence operations again from January 1, 2009 and the first flight will fly to Dubai from Colombo International Airport at 6 pm.
He said that they oppose the budget allocation of Rs. 6 billion to recommence the Mihin Lanka while the country is burning with economic problems.
However the NFF yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government to contest the upcoming provincial council elections.
The low cost government funded enterprise went bankrupt last year due to the mismanagement at the helms last year. The airline launched in April 2007 has reportedly incurred a loss of about $30 million.
