Dec 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main Marxist party the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today organized a protest against the government and its activities.
The protest campaign started at the Hyde Park grounds in Colombo with the participation of few JVP parliamentarians and the General Secretary of the party, but without the party leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.
The protest march reached the Lipton Circle in Town Hall and then held a meeting in the area.
Speaking to the media the General Secretary of the party Tylwin Silva said that the people of the country are suffering many problems due to the government's failure to bring down the fuel prices in keeping with the current downward trend in world oil prices.
One of the main union leaders and a JVP MP K.D Lal Kantha said this protest campaign was the first stage of the people’s agitation against the government.
