Dec 17, Colombo: Sri Lankan ruling party, United Peoples Freedom Party (UPFA) has appointed two nomination councils presided by two senior ministers of the party for the upcoming provincial council election.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said the Transport minister Dullas Alahapperuma will serve as the head of the nomination council for the Central Province while the Labor Minister Athauda Senaviratne will serve as the head for North Western Province.
UPFA hopes to make public on next Wednesday the names of the candidates who will be contesting for the upcoming provincial council election.
According to the Minister Sirisena the party hopes to finalize their candidate lists by the 22nd of this month.
Following the finalization of the lists the UPFA will submit the names to the national election operation board to obtain final approval.
Election Department will be accepting nominations for the forthcoming provincial council elections from Dec 24 through Dec 31.
