Dec 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets and MI 24 helicopter gunships attacked multiple LTTE defences in the Kilinochchi town and surrounding areas in support of the advancing troops of 57 Division and Task Force 1, the military said.

Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said fighter jets carried out 7 sorties targeting LTTE strongholds in the west and the north of Kilinochchi town, and the Iranamadu areas since last night.

MI 24 helicopter gunships meanwhile targeted LTTE gathering points in Kilinochchi and another sea tiger boats in the Elephant Pass area, the spokesman added.
