Dec 01, Colombo: Disaster Relief Services Ministry of Sri Lanka says that 11,919 houses were fully damaged and another 31,278 houses were partially damaged by the recent cyclone and torrential rains that lashed the country last week.
According to the Ministry statistics the brunt of the damages is in the Jaffna peninsula with 11,909 houses fully damaged and 31,267 partially damaged.
A total of 381,473 people have been affected by the severe weather in eight districts and 11 deaths have been reported.
Jaffna district was the worst hit reporting 9 deaths. Another 338,579 people have been affected by the cyclone and rains.
Disaster Relief Services Ministry said that they have already granted Rs 15 million for relief assistance.
Meanwhile the Meteorology Department said although the cyclone has moved out some parts of the country will still experience more rains.
