Aug 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force carried out separate air raids targeting three Tamil Tiger camps in the Mullaitivu district this morning, defence sources said.
According to Air Force spokesman, Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the first of the three air raids was carried out last midnight targeting a Sea Tiger forward operating base at Nagasivanthurai in Poonaryn.
He said a jetty used by the Tigers, a radar point and a boatyard were destroyed in this mission carried out by Russian built MI 24 helicopters. He said the target was operated as a forward reconnaissance centre by the Tigers.
The second air raid targeted the main operation centre of the Tamil Tigers’ intelligence wing located north of Puthukkudiyiruppu, in the Mullaitivu district. According to the sources the raid was carried out by the fighter jets around 9.55 AM. Air Force spokesman citing after-mission reports confirmed the target was destroyed.
The third air raid was conducted by fighter jets targeting the main logistic base of the Tamil Tigers located northeast of Vishwamadhukulama Tank in the Mullaitivu district around 10 AM. According to Wing Commander Nanayakkara, the target located 15 Km west of Puthukkudiyiruppu was destroyed and seen in flames after the attack.
