* Sri Lanka Air Force Raids Tamil Tiger stronghold

Aug 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force attacked a Tamil Tiger position located in Pillawarayankadu area, 7 km, north of Vellankualama this evening.

Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said MI 24 helicopter gunships attacked the targer in support of the Army Task Force 1 soldiers now operating in the Kilinochchi district. The target was effectively neutralized, he added.

Meanwhile, Air Force ground troops conducting clearing operations in the Peraru area, north of Trincomalee this evening had recovered a stash of newly buried ammo and explosives including 3 claymore mines, 4,500 ammo for T-56 riffles, 10 anti personnel mines (AP), 102 electrical detonators, 3 kg of C-4 high explosives, and 350 pistol ammo.
