August 07, Colombo: The day experienced negative sentiments with all indices ending up on adverse territory. All Share Price Index (ASPI) shed off 6.32 points (0.26%) to sign off at 2465.48 while Milanka Price Index (MPI) crouched down by 14.37 points (0.49%) to close at 2935.02
A turnover of Rs.1063.86 was witnessed today. A total of 8 crossings were seen today. John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) saw 4 block deals with a collective parcel of 400,000 and 524,500 shares having changed hands at Rs.103.00 and Rs.103.50 respectively. The counter closed at Rs.103.75. In addition, Watawala Plantations PLC (WATA), Development Finance Corporation of Ceylon (DFCC), Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC (DIST) and Hayleys PLC (HAYL) also recorded crossings amounting to 1 183 333, 333 300, 375 000, 128 200 shares at Rs.85.00, Rs.115.00, Rs.88.00 and Rs.145.00 respectively. Richard Pieris and Company PLC (RICH) was the star of the day both volume and turnover wise with 16.10Mn shares and Rs.566.54Mn shares respectively. The counter saw the end of the day at Rs.40.00. Next in line volume wise were Valibel Power Erathna PLC (VPEL), Lanka IOC Ltd. (LIOC) and WATA with 1.90Mn, 1.76Mn and 1.18Mn shares respectively.
Other notable contributions to turnover were made by JKH, WATA and Associated Motorways PLC (AMW) with Rs.109.26Mn, Rs.100.67Mn and Rs.45.21Mn respectively. Price gainers outdid price losers in a non-significant manner numbering 68 to 57. Foreign trade was heavier on the purchasing side resulting in a net inflow of Rs.226.65Mn.
