Aug 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force launched air raids targeting Tamil Tiger defensive positions in the Vellankulma are around this afternoon, defence sources said.

According to the sources, the air raids were conducted using Russian built MI 24 helicopters to support ground troops now entered into the Kilinochchi district. The attacks were successful the sources, added.

Sri Lanka Army Task Force 1 and 57 Division troops are now engaged in fighting with the Tamil Tigers in the Kilinochchi district while 59 Division troops have been marching into the Mullaitivu district. According to the reports Tamil Tigers contol of land is now limited to the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts.
