Aug 28, Colombo: A photographer of a leading newspaper and a video cameraman of a private TV station in Sri Lanka were assaulted by the students of the Medical Faculty of University of Colombo this morning.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said the journalists were assaulted by the students when they try to photograph the hostels of the faculty. The students have also damaged the camera equipment of thejournalists.

However the two journalists have complained to the police that the security guard of the hostel had assaulted them first.

“After the security guard assaulted us, students also intervened,” one journalist said.

According to the sources one journalist has been admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile the Media Minister urged the IGP this evening to arrest the suspects immediately.
