Aug 28, Colombo: The Cabinet has given approval to construct 15 new bridges in the North and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka.
Cabinet spokesman Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said the decision was taken according to a proposal submitted by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Highways Development Minister.
According to Minister Yapa six bridges will be built on the Seruwila- Somawathie road while another 4 will be built in the Trincomalee District. Another 5 new bridges are planned to be built on the Mannar- Puttalam road.
The bridges will be built under the development program in the North and East Provinces.
