Aug 28 Colombo: Sri Lankan government has decided to resolve the salary anomaly issue of all the teachers increasing the minimum monthly salary of a teacher in the Grade 3-1 to Rs. 16,100.

Education minister Susil Premjayanth said the Cabinet had approved the proposal submitted by him yesterday.

According to the Minister Rs. 1.6 billion will be allocated to rectify the salary anomaly of the teachers.

When the government implements the new salary proposals in the teacher service next month, the monthly salary of each teacher will be increased by Rs. 2,200, the Minister added.

Some union backed teachers have withdrawn from the GCE A/L paper grading currently in progress due to the salary anomaly issue which has been dragging for years.

Examination Commissioner General of Sri Lanka, Anura Edirisinghe yesterday said that only 300 teachers are engaged in paper grading because of this salary problem.
