Aug 27, Colombo: Sri Lankan team, who participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, had arrived in the country last night.
Sources at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake said the Sri Lankan team had arrived in the country at about 12.05 last night by a Thai Airways flight.
Eight Sri Lankan athletes have participated in the 2008 Olympic Games, but the team fail to get any medal.
Captain of the Sri Lankan team sprint queen, Susanthika Jayasingha was the only athlete who managed to qualify for the second round in the 200m event. But she also failed in the 100 meters women semi finals shutting the country’s Olympic medal dream.
However Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, Gamini Lokuge said that he will commence a special program targeting the next Olympic Games to be held in London in 2012.
