Aug 27, Batticaloa: Sri Lanka Police and the University administration have decided to introduce a new security system for the Eastern University.
Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University, Dr. N. Pathmanathan said under this special security system few police road blocks will be established near the University premises.
The new security system will not affect the normal duties of the University, Vice Chancellor added.
Dr. Pathmanathan said that no decision has been made yet regarding the opening of the University for students.
The administration had decided to close the Eastern University few weeks ago after a Sinhala student was shot dead by unidentified gunman.
The shooting came as students belonging to the majority Sinhala community who have been selected to attend the university staged a protest in the capital, refusing to register at the university because they claim it is not safe.
