* Four historical places in Sri Lanka to be nominated as world heritage sites

Aug 26, Colombo: Central Cultural Fund of Sri Lanka has decided to nominate the four most historical places as world heritage sites.

At a press conference held in Colombo this morning, Director General of Central Cultural Fund, Professor Sudarshana Senevirathna said Adams peak, known as Sri Pada, historical Somawathi Dagaba, Munneshwaram Kovil and Koneshwaram Kovil are the four nominees. Preparations for this program are now under way, he added.

Sri Pada, a sacred site at which the Sri Lankans believe that Lord Buddha visited and the historical Somawathi Dagaba are very important places to the Sinhalese Buddhist people.

Munneshwaram Kovil at Chilawin the West and Koneshwaram Kovil at Trincomalee in the East are most historical places to the Sri Lankan Tamils.
