* India releases Sri Lankan fishermen

Aug 26, Colombo: Indian authorities have released twelve Sri Lankan fishermen who were in Indian custody for entering their territory illegally few weeks ago.

Sri Lankan Fisheries Ministry said the twelve fishermen who are residents from various parts of the country will arrive in Sri Lanka next Thursday.

According to the sources the two boats that these fishermen sailed were also released by the Indian Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has assured India that the Navy will not open fire on Tamil Nadu fishermen hereafter and that the fishermen would be given humanitarian treatment whenever they are arrested.
