* Sri Lanka opposition appoints Ranjan and Janaka to its Working Committee

Aug 25, Colombo: The main Opposition United National Party has appointed chief ministerial candidates at the provincial polls Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera and actor Ranjan Ramanayake as members of the party's Working Committee.

The decision has been taken in recognition of their contributions and skills shown at the polls for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils during the election.

Maj. Gen. Perera received 130,600 votes against UPFA’s Berty Premalal Dissanayake who received 79,000 votes.

Sabaragamuwa Province UNP Chief Ministerial Candidate Ranjan Ramanayake got 130,258 votes.
