Aug 25 Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition, United National Party (UNP) says Chief Ministerial posts should be given to their candidates although the United People's Freedom Alliance won the Saturday's Provincial council election.
At a special press conference held in Colombo this evening, Chief Ministerial candidate for North Central Province Maj.Gen. Janaka Perera and candidate for Sabaragamuwa Province, famous actor Ranjan Ramanayake said they managed to get the highest preferential votes in the election.
“People of both Provinces gave their highest preferential votes to us because they approved our mandates,” said the candidates.
In the press briefing Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera added that he will register as a permanent resident of Anuradhapura District to serve the people of the North Central Province.
Meanwhile Ranjan Ramanayake said he will not give any chance in the future to corruptions and frauds in the Sabaragamuwa Province.
Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera and Ranjan Ramanayake, who contested under the UNP banner in Saturday’s election, got the highest preferential votes defeating the former Chief Ministers preferential votes .
