Army infantrymen and commandos of Task Force 1 continued their counter terror operations on the Kilinochchi southern front enduring heavy terror resistance on Sunday, military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said.

Four Tigers were killed and at least 4 others were wounded in the day-long battles in the Nachchikudha area. Ten soldiers were wounded in the same battles, spokesman said.

In a separate incident 3 soldiers suffered injuries due to a booby trap explosion around 4.45 PM in the same area.

In Welioya, on the Mullaitivu eastern front, troops of 59 Division attacked and captured an LTTE bunker and a mortar pit in the Andankulama area yesterday afternoon. Four Tigers were killed and eight more were wounded, the Media Center for National Security reported.

Confrontations Mullaitivu and Jaffna regions killed two more Tigers, the MCNS added.

Accurate casualty figures are not possible to obtain as there is no media access in the conflict areas.

However, the government says over 6,000 rebels have died so far this year since the government stepped up its military campaign following the withdrawal of ceasefire agreement.
