* Sri Lanka Provincial Council Election concludes with ruling party victory

Aug 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Provincial Council Elections concluded with the Department of Elections announcing the final results a short while ago with the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtaining a clear victory in both provinces.

UPFA has won 45 seats followed by United National party (UNP) winning 29 seats and Marxist party Janath Vimuthi Peramuna (JVP) obtaining only 3 seats out of 77 seats allocated for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.

Taking the provincial allocations, UPFA has obtained 25 seats, UNP 17 seats, and JVP 2 seats from Sabaragamuwa Province followed by UPFA’s 20 seats, 12 seats of UNP, and 1 seat won by JVP in the North Central Province.
