* President's party wins Sabaragamuwa Province

Aug 24, Ratnapura: President Mahinda Rajapaksa's ruling coalition, UPFA has won the Sabaragamuwa Province with a clear majority, Election Secretariat here says.

United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance won both Ratnapura and Kegalle districts and secured its majority in the Sabaragamuwa Province.

UPFA won 23 seats in the province while main Opposition, UNP got 17 seats in the Provincial council.

“Biggest lost is for JVP and they received only 2 seats in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council,” election analysts said.
