Aug 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the people of Sabaragamuwa and North Central provinces have approved government policy of 'Mahinda Chinthana' again at this election.

“I like to thank to all the people who supported our government. The people of these key provinces endorsed my policy with a key majority,” President Rajapaksa told ColomboPage in an exclusive interview this evening.

President expressed his gratitude to the Police and other security forces personnel for their efforts to maintain law and order and to provide the secure environment for the voters. He also extended his appreciation to 30,000 or so election officials for their duty in carrying out a free and fair election.

“People of this country voted for sovereign state despite the main opposition campaign against the government. This was an election to decide country’s destiny. We are fully engaged to crush the terrorism and implement humanitarian operations to rescue the innocent Tamil people from the LTTE. Therefore this win encourages my government and security forces to continue this battle against the world’s ruthless terrorist organization. So, I got the mandate again from this election,” the President added.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is the leader of ruling party United Peoples' Freedom Alliance (UPFA) secures his party’s victory at the yesterday’s provincial council election.
