Sunday, August 24, 2008, 15:27 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 24, Colombo: Leader of the breakaway Marxist party, National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa said that the people have given their franchises not for the government or its jumbo Cabinet or corruption but for the brave troops, who were fighting in the North.

“The mandate received by UPFA at yesterday’s PC polls is a one given to the troops and not to continue with the corruption of the government,” Weerawansa said addressing a press conference in Colombo this morning.

He also said that he is ready to rejoin with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna if the leadership of the party is changed.
