* Ruling party leading in Sri Lanka's provincial polls

Aug 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance (UFPA) is the clear winner of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provincial polls winning all the polling divisions counted so far.

In North Central Province, UFPA received 59.73% in Polonnaruwa District while the major opposition party UNP secured only 35.02%. In Anuradhapura District UFPA won the Medawachchiya Polling Division with 59%, Anuradhapura West 52.45% and Mihintale Polling Division 53.5% of votes.

In Sabaragamuwa Province, Balangoda Polling Division in Ratnapura District received 55.40%, Kalawana 57.10%, Pelmadulla 50.50%, and Nivithigala 56.99%. The UNP received 43.77% of votes in Pelmadulla.

In Kegalle District, the ruling party won the Kegalle Polling Division with 61.51% of votes and Aranayake division with 58.83%.
