Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition party leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe in a press release today has condemned the government’s action with regard to the personal security issue of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakim.

Wickremasinghe said the way the government act on the security of the SLMC leader cannot be justified on any grounds.

He blamed the government for misusing personal security issues of the peoples’ representatives to disturb their political activities. Wickremasinghe called the government’s behaviour a barbaric nature that no democratic society would dare to approve.

The press release also called the government to disarm the Pillian group or the TMVP with immediate affect in order to ensure a free and fair provincial council election in the East.
