Apr 30, Colombo: Floods caused by torrential rains in several areas are currently receding, says the Disaster Management Centre in Sri Lanka.
According to the Ratnapura district secretary, the displaced in the district are presently moving back to their homes.
Several areas in the Ratnapura, Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, Gampaha and Colombo districts went underwater due to the heavy rains. The Meteorological Department said the rains were caused by a storm that developed in the Bay of Bengal, which has now lost its strength.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health today warned the public of possible epidemic conditions that may develop with the receding of the floods.
