Apr 28, Colombo- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Sri Lanka this evening for a two-day state visit on a special request from President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Iranian President is starting his first Asian tour in Sri Lanka as his first stop.
The visiting President was received by his Sri Lankan counterpart President Rajapaksa at the Bandaranaike international airport at Katunayaka. Later today Ahmadinejad will call on the Sri Lankan President.
Sri Lanka Navy offered the guard of honor while Sri Lanka Army offered 21 gun salutes to the visiting leader.
President Ahamedinejad and President Rajapaksa will be laying the foundation stone for the Uma Oya Hydro Power project tomorrow at Wellawaya in Monaragala district. Iran had agreed to grant $450 million to finance the project multi-purpose irrigation and hydro-power project.
