Apr 02, Kandy: A group of powerful Local Government members and businessmen of the United National Party in the Matale district called upon the President this morning at the President's House in Kandy (Apr 01) and assured their support to the government.

The group, pleased with the efforts of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to liberate the country from terrorism and with intensive infrastructure development projects that are being implemented under his leadership to build the country, included Matale former Provincial Council Chairman and former Chief Secretary of All Lanka UNP PS Chairmen's Federation, Mr. Nihal Wijenayake, a prominent businessman of the Matale Traders Association, Mr. Mayalagu Shashsikaran, and a 45 year-long member of the UNP, Lionel Premachandra and several others. The meeting took place at the invitation of the Urban Development Minister Mr. Rohana Dissanayake.
