Apr 01, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has entered into an agreement with the main opposition United National Party to jointly contest at the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council election.
Informed sources said that after a lengthy discussion between the SLMC officials and the UNP officials this evening, they had decided to jointly contest at the election. Talks between the parties started from this morning at the office of the Opposition Leader at Cambridge Terrace, Colombo continued into the late evening.
They also agreed to give the Chief Ministerial portfolio to the candidate with the highest number of preferential votes from the party that claims the highest number of seats.
