* Tyronne Fernando is new Sri Lanka Ambassador to France

Sept 30, Colombo: Senior Presidential Advisor, Tyronne Fernando will be Sri Lanka's Ambassador to France from January, the government announced.

Tyronne was appointed as the Governor of the North and East Province in 2004 by former President Chandricka Kumaratunga. Fernando who was the Foreign Minister in the Ranil Wickremasinghe government under president Kumaratunga left the United National Party (UNP) and joined the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA). He had also announced his candidature for the post of UN Secretary-General, a few years ago.

Tyronne has been elected as a Member of Parliament from his Moratuwa electorate continuously for twenty-seven years from 1977.
