* Six Tigers killed in Northwest Sri Lanka, batteries, mines recovered

Sept 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka military said six suspected Tiger cadres were killed yesterday evening in the general area of Kallikulam in Mannar.

Troops in the forward areas confronted a group of LTTE Tigers and the six Tigers were killed in the confrontation. No injuries were reported for the troops. Earlier in the day troops conducting search operations in the area recovered fifty anti personnel mines, Defense Ministry said.

Meanwhile the security forces at the Parappakandal road block in Mannar arrested a driver and his assistant and seized their truck transporting a huge haul of batteries including 14,400 pen torch batteries, 24,000 large batteries, 3,000 batteries for remote controls and six remote controls.

Murunkan Police are conducting further investigations.

In a separate search operation in Mudagal area in Batticaloa yesterday troops recovered a 10 kg Claymore mine and 12 kgs of explosives.
