Sept 23, Colombo: Lankadeepa, a leading Sri Lankan Sinhala daily today reported that the government has decided to further postpone the final solution for the country’s dragging ethnic problem until the budget proposals are passed.
The newspaper says that the reason behind the delay is the government’s top most need of getting the budget proposals passed in the parliament.
There is wide division in the All Party Representative Committee (APRC) among government coalition parties on the nature of the state. Minority parties demand a federal constitution while the nationalist Jathika Hela Urumaya and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna insist the unitary nature of the state be maintained.
The government is to reveal its proposals for the ethnic solution after the budget, in January of next year, the report said.
