Sept 22, Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka today heading to New York to attend the UN general assembly sessions, government officials said.
President is to address the 62nd UN General Assembly on 25 September, on its opening day, government sources said. He will clarify the details of humanitarian operations in Northern and Eastern Provinces and the solution that will be granted to the country’s dragging ethnic problem at the session.
The President is also expected to meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and several state heads during his tour.
