* Sri Lanka railway to put new carriages on track

Sept 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka railway was to test the newly imported carriages for their eligibility today.

A team of 25 technical staff of the manufacturing company have arrived in Sri Lanka to carry out the tests.

Sri Lanka Railway intends to put the carriages in operation from September 25.

The carriages belong to the first batch of 25 that was shipped to Sri Lanka this month from China. Sri Lanka spent Rs. 2.2 billion for these 25 carriages.

Twenty five more carriages from the order of 100 carriages are to arrive in mid October.
