Oct 05, Colombo: Intensifying the tussle between the 746 would be medical interns and Sri Lanka Ministry of Health and Nutrition, the batch of interns have decided not to put forward applications again.

The Ministry has recalled applications for medical internships within a week’s time because of certain problems in the earlier applications.

However, the interns' representatives saying that the list of names of the interns have been publicized reject the Ministry claim that applications will be recalled due to errors in that list.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Chairman Anuruddha Padeniya said that the Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva is acting maliciously to take revenge from the medical students who protested the Ministry’s move to post the students from the universities in Northern and Eastern Provinces for compulsory service in those provinces deviating from the merit list.

Government Medical Officers’ Association and Medical student’s organizations vehemently protested the Ministry move demanding to adhere to the merit list, prompting the Minister to withdraw it eventually.
