Tuesday, October 16, 2007, 13:56 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Postal Department trade unions collective has launched a Black Week protest campaign from today hoisting black flags at Post Offices and wearing black bands.

The trade unions protest the impunity given to the culprits found guilty by investigation committees for corruption in the Department, for not resolving the issues of malpractices and for promoting the private mail through the newly introduced business mail.

However, a spokesman of the trade union collective said that the postal services would not be disrupted due to this protest campaign. Yet, he expressed the possibility of stern trade union action if the problems are not resolved.
