Nov 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that 11 security forces personnel were killed and 42 were injured and hospitalized in fierce fighting at Muhamalai forward defense line (FDL).

The Army spokesman said that an attack by the Liberation Tigers was successfully repulsed and security consolidated at the FDL. He further said that around 60 LTTE cadres were killed and a large number was injured. The Tigers were seen using five vehicles to evacuate their wounded cadres, he added.

Defense reports said 52 Tigers were killed inside their bunkers when troops advancing up to about 5 km into the Tiger territory overran around 20 LTTE bunkers in their first line of defence.

Military says recently Tigers have stepped up their attacks at Muhamalai attempting to breach the FDL.
