Nov 22, Colombo: Twenty-one Sri Lankans who were arrested by Iraqi troops in Baghdad in connection with a shooting incident had been released without charges, Sri Lanka said today.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hussein Bhaila told the media that Sri Lankan Mission in Lebanon had confirmed to him that the Sri Lankans had been set free without any charges today.

However news agency reports said today that 43 people are still in Iraqi custody. “My understanding is that they are still in custody but some of them could be released soon,” U.S. military spokesman Major Winfield Danielson had said.
