* Strike looms over Sri Lanka universities

May 31, Colombo: Non academic workers of all the universities of Sri Lanka will launch a token strike next Monday to protest the said reprisal activities of the authorities, a spokesperson of the Inter University Joint Committee of Trade Unions said.

The non-academic staff of the Colombo University will start a continuous strike from Monday to protest the interdiction of work of eight university workers on the charge of violent behavior.

Meanwhile the Inter University Joint Committee of Trade Unions has decided to strike island wide from June 11 in support of the Colombo University workers if the interdiction of the workers is not revoked.
