May 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka should not seek weapons from Pakistan or China and it should come to India whatever might be their requirement, Indian National Security Advisor, M K Narayanan said today, Indian media reported.
Quoting the National Security Advisor, Indian dailies said "We are a big power in the region. We don't want the Sri Lankan government to go to Paksitan or China. Whatever may be their requirement, the Sri Lankan government should come to us."
Narayanan however said that India will not provide weapons with offensive capabilities to Sri Lanka. "Radars are seen as defensive. Hence, we have provided the Sri Lankan government with them," he said.
He also said that India is not in favor of any terrorist organization having air capabilities and sees the air capabilities of LTTE as a threat to India's security.
Media reports said that Sri Lankan Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on his recent visit to India submitted a list of urgent military requirements during meetings with national security advisor M K Narayanan, Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Army Chief General J. J. Singh.
