May 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has allocated Rs. 16 billion for the fertilizer subsidy this year. The Rs. eight billion allocated for the current Yala season is now being distributed among the farmers.
The government last week decided to provide the subsidy only through the government owned fertilizer companies. The government fertilizer companies say that they have adequate stocks for the subsidy and another stock has now reached the Colombo harbor.
The Minister of Agriculture and Peasants Services Maithripala Sirisena has advised the officials not to make delays in distribution of fertilizer especially to the remote villages.
