Mar 31, Colombo: The main opposition UNP yesterday demanded the government to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to inquire into Monday’s first ever LTTE air attack on the Katunayake Air Force Base.
UNP strongman Lakshman Kiriella addressing a media briefing said that the UNP wanted parliament to be summoned for this purpose. “But the government had declined to do so and the party believes the CID probe on this attack would be futile,” the MP said.
He also said that by appointing a select committee it will able to look into all aspects of the attack since it could function as an independent body. “Such a committee would definitely help the government to obtain much more information on the Katunayake attack and the air power of the LTTE,” he said.
