Mar 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka to call on SAARC member states to revisit the Associations’ modalities in countering terrorism in all its manifestations, a Minister said.
Addressing the members of Foreign Correspondents’ Association (FCA) in Colombo, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said “it is high time SAARC took specific steps to curb terrorist funding, smuggling of humans and drugs, as well as arrest the growing activities of front organizations of the terrorist groups.”
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead the Sri Lanka delegation to the Summit that will take place on 3rd-4th of April.
Referring to the recent air attack by the LTTE, the Minister cautioned that this action could have particular ramifications to the region and that countries should not wait until terrorism struck them. He said the LTTE was known to have carried out attacks on foreign soil and that they could stage attacks on important installations in the region, even as mercenaries.
