Sri Lanka::
* Ranil will lose the Opposition Leader post if five more UNPers cross over - Minister
Monday, March 19, 2007, 13:05 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 19, Colombo: Cabinet Minister Jeyaraj Fernadopulle yesterday said that if the main Opposition UNP loses another five members in the next crossover, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe would lose the country’s Leader of Opposition position.

“Then JVP parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa will automatically get the position as the Leader of the Opposition if planned five more UNPers crossover to the government,” the Minister said addressing a meeting.

However he did not give a date when the crossover of five UNPers might happen. “Currently the UNP is only having 42 members in the parliament and the JVP is having 38 parliamentarians,” the Minister said.
