* Rs. 2 billion from the government to buy Sri Lanka paddy harvest

Mar 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Agriculture Development has allocated two billion rupees to purchase paddy in the upcoming Maha season.

The Ministry expects to purchase 110,000 metric tonnes of paddy from the major paddy cultivating districts.

The Agriculture Product Marketing Authority has been assigned by the Ministry to conduct the paddy purchasing. Harvesting has already begun in many districts and the purchasing is to commence in the coming weeks.
