June 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Foreign ministry today said that it is in constant touch with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Sultanate of Oman with a view to ensuring the safety and security of Sri Lankan nationals working and living in Sultanate of Oman.
“The Embassy confirms that there has been no report of Sri Lankan nationals working in Sultanate of Oman being affected by the torrential rains and floods and is closely monitoring the development,” the Foreign Ministry here said in a statement.
Cyclone Gonu, ripped through the coastal areas of Oman on Wednesday killing at least 32 people and leaving another 30 missing in the Gulf sultanate, Oman police said Friday.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hussein A. Bhaila contacted Ambassador M. Maharoof and instructed to be vigilant on the situation and extend all possible assistance to Sri Lankan nationals if there are any exigencies, it said.
The Mission has also advised the Sri Lankans residing in Sultanate of Oman to remain in their place of work/ household and to contact the Embassy if they require any advice and assistance.
